What We're Seeing

We are not talking enough about South Asian mental wellbeing. Some cultural views may not include talking about mental health challenges or have the language around it (Moller et al., 2016). Our overall wellness is important in order for us to thrive. Mental health is part of that wellness.

Quick Facts on South Asian Mental Health - 

One in five South Asians in the United States report experiencing a mood or anxiety disorder in their lifetime. 

Some South Asian individuals may interpret psychological distress as somatic symptoms. 

Many South Asian communities express greater stigma towards mental illness than other groups.

Some South Asian men may be at a greater risk for Alcohol Use Disorder than women, and are less likely to seek formal treatment.
